Do I Have To Dress?Commentary'sWhy do some members at church dress up and some comes dressed as they are? Is anything wrong with not wearing suits or a fancy dress or pantsuit? This question had been asked over and over to preachers.

“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”” – 1 Samuel 16:7

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” – 1 Peter 3:3-4

I was asked if I wear a suit because I'm a Preacher or because I want to look good for the church members. Neither one, when I get up behind the pulpit to preach, I just want to show my respect to the Lord and let him know I appreciate all that He had done for me. I never have and never will try to impress anyone, my theory is take me as I am or forget me.

I have over heard some members try to pass judgement on those in casual clothes (like jeans or t-shirts). This kind of behavior can lead to newcomers or those with less money feeling unwelcome or inferior. I see nothing wrong with coming as you are as long as it’s not in swimming suits or hot pants. Let Jesus be the judge and study more on the Bible than on people.

God looks at the heart, not outward show. Your inner disposition (love, humility) matters infinitely more than fancy clothes. In the Biblical time when they had church in the Tabernacle, some came with the clothes they had on straight out of the fields from working.

Now is when some gets offended when I put my personal two cents in. If you would spend more time honoring God and less time putting your nose into something that is none of your business, you would not even notice what the others are wearing. Just saying if you get the drift.
